The best AI receptionists in New Zealand (2026), ranked by one of them

We sell an AI receptionist, we are first on our own list, and we will still tell you honestly which of our seven rivals might suit you better. Every claim from published pages, every price on our dated comparison table.

A row of office desk phones on a long wooden table in a New Zealand office at dusk, the ones either side sitting dark while the phone in the centre glows with the Talkify logo on a blue to green gradient screen.

Search "best AI receptionist NZ" today and almost everything that ranks is one of two things: a listicle written by an overseas content team that has never rung a New Zealand number and recommends six American services, or a ranking written by one of the vendors with themselves at the top. This is the second kind. We are Talkify, we sell an AI receptionist, and we are first on our own list, which should surprise nobody.

What we can offer that the others have not: we will show our working, we will tell you honestly who each rival suits better than we do, and every claim below comes from the provider's own published pages. Prices move too often to freeze into a blog post, so the numbers live on our live comparison table, which carries the date we last checked every figure and takes corrections from anyone, including the providers themselves.

How we ranked them

  • Can you hear it before you pay? A published phone number answered by the actual product is the five-second test that beats every feature table.
  • Does it publish its numbers? Prices, included minutes, overage rates, setup fees. Silence on any of these is a red flag we weighted heavily.
  • Is it genuinely built for New Zealand? NZ voices that survive Whangārei and Ōtautahi, NZ numbers, GST invoices, and a straight answer about where your call data lives.
  • Does it finish the job? Booking into a live calendar and qualifying the lead, not just taking a message.

1. Talkify (yes, us, and here is the case)

Built in New Zealand, answers from 0.4 seconds in real NZ voices, books into your live calendar, and is the only NZ provider on this list that pairs inbound reception with a full outbound calling engine: reminders, win-backs, review requests and overdue invoice calls from the same agent. Calls to +64 numbers are handled and stored in New Zealand data centres, which we publish in writing. $129/month at the founding rate for your first 3 months, then $199, no setup fee, no lock-in, and our line is answered by the product itself on 03 242 1262 right now.

Pick us if you want inbound and outbound from one supplier, NZ data residency in writing, and published pricing with no asterisks. Look elsewhere if you want a human answering service, or you want to own and self-host the whole stack.

2. Waboom

A working Auckland agency rather than a landing page, with dated case studies, named clients and a published track record, which almost nobody else in this market can say. They advertise the New Zealand accent explicitly and sell voice agents on pay-as-you-go with no commitment. Pick them if you want pay-as-you-go and an agency relationship. Our side-by-side is on the Waboom alternatives page.

3. Hey Jodie

The most productised of the newer entrants: flat pricing, a mobile app, industry pages by the dozen and a visible pile of public Google reviews. Aimed squarely at sole traders and small teams who want something simple that just runs. Pick them if you want the simplest possible flat-rate answering and do not need outbound calling, deep integrations or a say in where call data is stored.

4. Easy AI Agents

The closest thing to a straight like-for-like with us, and their marketing is refreshingly free of nonsense. Their self-managed plan is genuinely cheaper than ours on the sticker, and if you are happy configuring and maintaining the agent yourself, that trade is real. Pick them if you want to keep the keys and pay less for the privilege. Full comparison on the Easy AI Agents alternatives page.

5. AppAI

A small Christchurch outfit with a named founder you can ring directly, a live demo line, and a plainly stated no-overage, no-minute-cap position, which is a better answer than the silence most of this market offers. Pick them if you want a hands-on local supplier where the founder answers the phone. Side-by-side on the AppAI alternatives page.

6. Tamaki AI

The multilingual specialist: agents that answer in English, Mandarin and Korean, hand-built by a named person with a stated 48 hour turnaround, and they publish their minutes, per-minute rate and setup fee plainly. Pick them if your customers call in more than one language and you want a person building the agent around that. Side-by-side on the Tamaki AI alternatives page.

7. AnswR

Simple pay-as-you-go answering with no monthly plan to carry through a quiet month. Pick them if your call volume is genuinely unpredictable and you would rather pay by the minute than commit. Side-by-side on the AnswR alternatives page.

8. Automate AI

A Wellington consultancy that sells voice answering as part of wider automation projects, and the only provider we found anywhere in this market that states plainly on its own website what year it was founded and where. We think that should be normal, so it earns a place here. Pick them if the phone is one part of a bigger workflow rebuild and you want one supplier doing all of it. Side-by-side on the Automate AI alternatives page.

The five-minute test that sorts the whole market

Ignore every table, including ours, and do this: find each provider's published phone number and ring it. Is it answered by the product they are selling you? Instantly? In a voice you would put in front of your customers? Ask it to spell your street name back. Ask it what the service costs. You will have a shortlist of two inside five minutes, because most of the market does not publish a number you can ring at all, and that fact is worth more than any review score.

Ours is 03 242 1262, answered around the clock by the same agent we sell. The full cost table, checked and dated, is on the comparison page, and the honest who-suits-who write-ups for fourteen NZ providers are on the alternatives pages. Spotted something out of date? Tell us and we will fix it.
